Baby, It's Cold INSIDE
It seemed a little chilly around 7:30 so I turned the heat up to 72. At 8, I was still cold so I looked at my thermostat. It said 60. The fan was blowing, but the air felt cool. I checked the air filter and found it completely plugged so I ran to Home Depot for a replacement. After changing the air filter and waiting a while, the air still seemed cool. I dug out my Reader's Digest Do-It-Yourself Manual and followed its instructions and the instructions on my furnace to re-light the furnace. It didn't seem to do anything so I called Dad and tried again. Still nothing. It was 58 degrees at 9:30. I called CenterPoint Energy/Minnegasco. A technician was at my house within 20 minutes and spent 5 minutes to pull out a limit switch, blow the dust off of it, and reinstall it. The heat kicked on. After 10 minutes the house warmed up to 60.
The tech said the limit switch likely got covered with the dust from the construction, which then told the furnance that it was too hot and not letting it kick in. He's going to replace the swith in about 3 weeks and highly recommended that I get the ducts cleaned after construction. I watched what he did, so I think I'd be able to find the limit switch and blow anymore dust off of it if it happens again.
